Process Applications.

Here are a few examples that highlight our Process Engineering experience.

Phosphate Blending Plant
Varo was retained by an international company to provide a design-furnish solution for three new phosphate blending units, each producing a different product. Varo utilized the client’s preliminary P&ID drawings to design and implement an effective and cost efficient solution for the client. Varo managed the procurement process to ensure equipment was ordered and delivered appropriately. Varo also provided construction administration services to support the steel erection, equipment installation and process commissioning. The system consists of bag dump stations, mixing vessels for blending, dust collection, and pneumatic conveying of fine materials, as well as tote and bag filling.

Fiberglass Sizing System Expansion
Varo designed a chemical and utility piping system to expand raw material storage and mixing capabilities for sizing system. The project included a tote storage refill system, automated weighing and mixing, and automated delivery to sizing application process. Varo also designed HVAC and civil changes for the remodeled storage building.

New Liquid Asphalt Process Line
Varo developed a new process line for filled, liquid asphalt formulations at a roofing manufacturing facility. The new process line included unloading and storage of raw asphalt formulations, the pumping of the raw materials to the mixing tanks, the blending of raw asphalt formulations and limestone filler, and the hot oil system required to support the new process. Varo’s responsibilities also included design of a new manufacturing tower.

Enzyme Additive to Beer Brewing Process
Varo designed pump and piping skids for unloading bulk totes and metering an enzyme additive to the beer brewing process at a local brewery. Varo also designed all of the piping and performed pipe stress evaluations on the piping. Varo also designed the electrical power and controls, and building modifications for the system.

Greenfield Glass Furnace Batch House
Varo provided complete process, mechanical, civil/structural, and electrical power and controls engineering services to design a batch house to supply batch to a 400 TPD glass furnace. The project included pneumatic truck unloading and conveying, raw material storage, feeding, weighing and mixing processes, mixed batch pneumatic conveying, storage and furnace charging systems.

Hot Oil & Liquid Asphalt Systems Expansion
Varo modified and extended the hot oil and liquid asphalt systems for six roofing manufacturing facilities. Asphalt mixing, storage tanks, filler mixing skids, and limestone dense phase conveying systems were added to the existing liquid asphalt system.

Doughnut Machine Upgrade
Varo modified the doughnut making machine at a local bakery to reduce excessive downtime and maintenance. Varo studied the performance of the Reimelt doughnut fryer, the Boggner doughnut filler, and the conveyor system, and recommended improvements to the equipment. After a course of action was agreed upon with the client, Varo implemented the improvements under a design-build contract.
